10/12/11

October 11-15/11.

This month our reading will focus on CONNECTIONS. Students will work on making personal connections (this reminds me of....), text to text connections (This story is similar to...), and text to world connections.
Our writing focus will continue to be on writing procedures (how to make a simple machine) and the characteristics of a procedure versus a story. We will begin to write narratives toward the end of the month.

Mathematics will focus on numeration. We will be building, rounding, adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers with a focus on regrouping. A number of math games will come home for students to reinforce concepts taught in class.

Grade three students will continue to focus on early settlers. The grade three students will be role playing an early settler during a one day trip in late November. Details will follow.

Science: Gr. 2 will be creating a simple machine that can move twenty cubes and the grade three students will be creating a toy that can move using the forces studied in class (e.g. stored energy, magnetic force, etc.).

Art: We are studying the work of Picasso and using  Mrs. Picasso's art blog, students will be creating their own Picasso monsters/ creatures. Keep an eye on our blog for photos of our masterpieces.
